THINGS TO DO IN DOTONBORI
MAP:
QUICK OVERVIEW:

Glico Sign: Famous sign in Dotonbori, pictures are usually taken from the middle of Ebisu Bridge.
The sign has been there since 1935 and was originally an advertising campaign for Ezaki Glico Company, a Japanese food company.

Ebisu Bridge: A popular spot to take the iconic photo of Dotonbori. One that you would have seen many times before which captures the river, the neon signs, and vibrant atmosphere so well.

Ebisu Tower Ferris Wheel: Connected to the Don Quijote Dotonbori store is a 77.4m Ferris Wheel. The cost is currently ¥1,000 per person and goes for around 15minutes. It doesn't have full 360° views, but you do get views over Dotonbori and the surrounding area. Nighttime is said to have great views as you can see all the neon lights lit up. There can however be long lines and unless it's something your keen to do, it's said to not worth a long wait, especially if you have kids with you.

Hozen-ji Temple & Hozenji Yokocho: Hozenji Yokocho is a small paved little alley way lined with restaurants and quaint shops. At the end of the alley is Hozen-ji temple, a buddhist temple thats dates back to 1637.
Osaka Food Tours:
Osaka is known for its delicious street food and one of the best ways to experience this is through the street food tours.
Top Tip: If trying street food, Okonomiyaki is popular - but, also filling. Would advise against starting with this as it might be the only thing you try. Or have someone to share it with.
The 1st and 2nd option are great food tours around Dotonbori. The 3rd option below is a highly rated food tour of hidden food gems in Shinseki if you're looking to explore another area.
The other recommendation for a general food tour of Osaka is the award-winning tour by Secret Food Tours. You can find it here. Top Tip: The popular food tours do book out so make sure to reserve in advance.

Dotonbori Museum Namikiza: A privately owned museum that showcases the area's history of Kabuki and Bunraki. There is also a small theater inside which holds live performances such as a Japanese traditional instrument experience or English rakugo (traditional Japanese storytelling.)
Kamigata Ukiyo-e Museum: Kamigata Ukiyo-e Museum exhibits ukiyo-e woodblock prints that often depicts actors from Japanese Kabuki theater.
On the 4th floor for a small fee you can participate in your own woodblock print class.

Ukiyo Koji: Ukiyo Koji is a small quiet alleyway in amongst the hustle and bustle of Dotonbori. The nostalgic alley is full of Japanese architecture from the Edo period through to the early Showa period and is lined with small shops that sell handcrafted goods, food, and a small shrine called Issunboshi Daimeijin.
You can visit this alley on a popular hidden gem tour or go by yourself. You can view the tour here.
The name of the tour is Osaka: Hotspots & Hidden Gems Walking Tour Private or Group.

3D Signs - Kani Doraku Dotonbori Main Branch,
Kinryu Ramen Dotonbori, Nakaza Cuidaore Building: One of the things Dotonbori is known for is its 3D art. There is way too many to mention but something to keep an eye out for and can make some great pictures.
Jacky's Hideout:
There are many fantastic little hole in the wall bars and food spots in Dotonbori. One is Jacky's hideout, a bar full of Anime books, Manga, prop swords, and games you can play. A great little spot to spend a few hours.
Tombori River Cruise, Pirates Cruise, Nippombashi Dock:
To fully enjoy the atmosphere of Dotonbori, why not take a river cruise that takes you down the Dotonbori canal, under the bridges, and past all the neon lights and signs. There are a few different options which don't all leave in the same spot. I've highlighted a few spots that they leave from on the map. Here are a few popular cruises:
Mochi Pounding Experience
Mochi pounding is the traditional way the Japanese make mochi. This experience gives you the chance to participate in this ancient tradition, as well as sampling the goods after.
Tea Ceremony Experience
Learn the procedures, preparations, history, and the principles, of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Join in by making and drinking your own matcha tea.
