Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is a lively city waiting to be explored. Visitors come to enjoy the beautiful architecture, taste delicious food, explore the Mekong River, and learn about Cambodia's rich history. The hotels listed below are part of this story, with some in historic buildings and others in modern skyscrapers.

Here are 10 budget-friendly hotels in Phnom Penh that are all very affordable and fall into the ⚪ category. If you need a reminder about the pricing categories, you can find it here. I prefer to use the term "budget" instead of "cheap," as these hotels aren't the backpacker €10 per night hostels. However, even during peak season, all of the hotels will still be under €80 per night, with some being significantly less. This price range in Cambodia offers excellent options that are typically around 3-to-4-star hotels. Let’s dive in!

Select from the drop-down menu below for information on the best months to visit and some helpful tips on how to budget once there.

WEATHER IN PHNOM PENH:

Phnom Penh's seasons are classified into 2 distinct seasons. The wet and the dry. WET SEASON From May to September. DRY SEASON From October to April The peak season runs from November to March with the most popular months being December and January. These months provide the most pleasant temperatures and the least amount of rainfall. March to June is when it gets extra hot and humid, followed by June to November when the rain comes through. Rain can happen 20+ days in these months.

DID YOU KNOW: The wet/rainy season is also referred to as the green season. This is due to all the rain creating a lush, green, abundant landscape.

PHNOM PENH BUDGET TIPS

8 TIPS TO HELP YOU SAVE MONEY IN PHNOM PENH

1. An obvious one. but visit in the low season with cheaper prices and fewer crowds. The con is it's the rainy season, but most days the rain comes and goes and doesn't stick around for the whole day. The pro is all the rain causes the landscape to turn into a stunning lush green landscape.

2. Use the cheapest forms of transport. Walk, rent a bicycle, or take the bus. One of the most popular bus companies that can take you from city to city for a super cheap price is Giant Ibis.

3. If you want a faster and more accessible transport option you can catch a Tuk Tuk. These can be easily ordered from the grab/pass app. Tuk Tuks are plentiful so don't forget to haggle to get the best price.

4. Haggling. Super common in Asian countries. You can haggle on almost anything in Cambodia. The general rule is about a 1/3 off what the original price is. Start lower and meet in the middle.

5. Go on a free walking tour. This one has many great reviews. Full disclosure, it's not totally free as gratuities are expected at the end of the tour however you would like to give.

5. Plan your days adventures to take advantage of restaurants and bars that promote happy hours. They usually last a couple of hours and advertise some really cheap deals.

6. Book accommodation in advance will be your best chance at getting the lowest price. Booking late or in person means you will be relying on whets left/available which tend to increase in price as demand peaks.
